Applications open of the Master programme in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine

Dear Friend,

I am pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Master (MSc) Programme in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine for this year. This is a joint venture between UCLH Hospital and UCL University. Candidates are not required to be independent in scanning as we will provide practical training along with educational and academic development opportunities.
 

The MSc will start in September 2023 for 2 years.


We developed 4 modules which on top of existing 3 modules will provide the theoretical and practical knowledge on how to scan in pregnancy including principles of fetal medicine.

During the course of the first year, they will scan low risk women under one-to-one hands-on supervision, to achieve progressive competences and become independent in performing fetal wellbeing third trimester growth scan, nuchal screening scan and second trimester anomaly scan.

During the second year they will continue to scan low risk women to consolidate their learning, will teach the new juniors, will spend, as part of one of the module, 1 month in Fetal Medicine at UCLH (training for invasive procedures is not provided) and will conduct a research project to write their MSc degree thesis.

Applications are through the UCLH website (below) and after successful interview they will be expected to:

  1. Pay UCL MSc tuition fees
  2. Obtain IELTS academic (Overall grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the subtests) OR OET English language requirements.
  3. Obtain the working VISA sponsored by UCLH (for non-UK residents).

Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainees and Doctors in their specialist training can obtain time out of programme for research as they will register for a higher degree. Please make sure this is agreed before applying by local Deanery or Specialty School. The minimum time for the programme is 2 years.

The programme is open not only to doctors (Obs&Gyn or radiologists), but also to radiographers, midwives and other life science professionals with high calibre academic curriculum. GMC licence to practice is not essential.

Therefore, UCLH will provide a salary which will help substantially for the payment of the tuition fees and the costs of living in London of about:

• 1st year: £38000 before taxes
• 2nd year: £40000 before taxes

Which equates to approximatively £2100 net per month.

UCL Tuition fees:

• UK residents: £ 8050 per year
• Non-UK residents: £ 17,500 per year.

Deadline for approval

Deadline for approval is currently on the 20.2.2023, to allow necessary time for non-UK residents’ requirements to take place. It will be extremely competitive so if received a high number of suitable applications we might close earlier.
